ideas21 member, Steve Capon, was featured in yesterday's edition of the  London Lite newspaper, in a double page spread highlighting some of the "wacky gadgets" as the paper called them which had been exhibited at last week's British Invention Show.

As many good ideas, it's really simple: instead of the normal little plastic end at the bottom of the cord that goes up to the ceiling switch, a LOOMINATE unit is attached. It looks rather like the old pull handle on a Victorian cistern, but this one contains a battery, a sensor to detect when someone comes into the bathroom at night, and some LEDs which  turn on, when a person is sensed, to give a low level of soft illumination to the room. So not only is the user of the bathroom not blinded by the light, but the risk that anyone else in the house or flat will be disturbed is much reduced. It's really helpful in cases where turning on the bathroom light also turns on a (sometimes quite noisy) fan.

And it doesn't end there: there are plans to make a version where the unit can be detached from the light switch cord and will then function as an emergency light – very handy for power cuts and any other emergencies; and of course so long as you remember, it's always easy to find!
